July 2024 Rescue Report

July was a busy month for the rescue. We had a few challenging dogs to place and are extremely happy to report that we found amazing homes for them.

Last month, Tessa, our former “Iowa dog,” who has been pretty fearful, went to her new home. The updates we have gotten on her have made our hearts swell because she and her owner have been working really hard together to help Tessa overcome her fears and start enjoying her life. Alexandria wrote, “Ever so slowly, she seems to be adjusting to her new normal. There have been many treats. She’s had her tail up more often in the last week, even a couple of times on the leash. Our walks have been great. She is still very unsure about the sheep at the end of the road, but who can blame her. We got some excited barks out in the yard yesterday morning. I realized that was the first time she’s been vocal since she came home. It was very cute.”

Tessa enjoying life.

Stella, a spirited 7-year-old, once reigned supreme in her loving home. But life changed with the arrival of a special needs child, and Stella’s owner, heartbroken, made the difficult decision to find her a new home where she’d get the attention she deserves. Stella just got that new home! She is now living with a retired couple in Washington state, who will be able to lavish her with all of the love and attention she deserves.

Our distinguished old man Chalky found his soft landing in Whitefish, Montana. He will have another older Samoyed to keep him company, and we will be excited to get more updates from them.

Rowdy also found an amazing new home with a couple who have been active with the rescue in the past. As soon as they saw him posted, they immediately reached out and told us they would love to adopt Rowdy. He’s now happily living with a houseful of female dogs, and has settled in comfortably. Here’s what his new family says: “Rowdy is doing great. He seems to be comfortable in his new house. It’s hard for me to get a good picture of him, because every time he sees me with the camera, he comes running to me with that famous Sammy smile on. I’ll try to send some more when he’s up and about. He is a very good boy. Once the chaos of coming to the new house and meeting the girls simmer down he laid right down next to the bed and went to sleep.”

And that just leaves Suzi, our sweet, affectionate, and energetic 10-month-old Samoyed wannabe. We had her DNA done, and it turns out she is 60.7% Siberian Husky, 19.8% GSD, 11.9% Alaskan Malamute, and 7.6% Samoyed. She’s also 100% a sweetheart.

Suzi is a playful pup with a big heart. She is enthusiastic, affectionate, and craves attention. She didn’t get the training she deserved in her previous home, so she’ll need some guidance, but she’s ready and willing to learn. She’s great with little dogs and loves water.

We’d really love to find her a forever home, so check out her profile to learn more.
