Nika is SO. SWEET.
What flavor of sweet? She loves humans (her own and any she happens to meet). She’s very attentive and tuned in to what’s happening around her. She’s also opinionated in the best Samoyed way, and is a lively conversation partner. An ex-show dog, she minds her manners, and being very treat motivated, there’s always a path to teach her some new ones. She’ll cheerfully hang out with other dogs, but tends to be more focused on the humans and what treats they may have on offer.
More about Nika from her current home:
“She’s very social and is very popular with my clients and the shops in the neighborhood. Random people stop to greet her. It’s a joy to see people’s faces light up from yards away when they see her coming. Especially as an ex showgirl she is easy to train and she’s a good girl with an appetite for treats. Very food motivated. She loves her walks especially her morning walk. We walk 2-3 miles per day.
She enjoys naps in the garden. And her 2 fave places to sleep are in the bathroom on the cold tiled floor and in the kitchen up against the stainless steel appliances. She’s is very loving and lovable and loves morning cuddles. She enjoys a lot of attention from people.
Watch out squeaky toys she’ll trash you in no time. She needs a lot of mental stimulation so puzzles and sniff toys and lick toys are a must. She doesn’t get left home often but she gets sassy when she does and indulges in some mischief. Keep the toilet paper and mail out of reach and you should be fine. She is not afraid to sulk and grumble and flounce herself to the ground when scolded. It’s kinda comical. But with treats all will be forgiven.“
This sweet girl has dealt with some challenges. She was surrendered with two other related show dogs when their owner had medical issues. Shortly after finding a new home, she was diagnosed with a larynx condition that can lead to occasional aspiration and infection, which requires daily medications and a watchful eye. She also has mild arthritis, which is not uncommon for a dog her age. Throughout, she remains a bright, engaged and energetic dog, just one with an occasional cough who will need more ongoing care than a typical dog would require.
For the right forever home, however, the rewards will be sweet, as the love, care and appreciation given to Nika will be very much returned in kind.
